Screwed MT!

I have made a wrong decision!

There has been an update for WP, for a looooooong time but I did not update it because my hosting does not have the supported version PHP. I ignored the update all these while, until yesterday.

I checked with the support if they are going to upgrade PHP to the latest version. He said they will but not sure when (what???) and he suggested to switch from current Windows hosting to Linux. Without thinking twice, I said ‘Yes’!

While FTP’ing to my hosting, I saw a folder in the root directory – cgi-bin – it reminds me of Movable Type. Previously, I had trouble installing MT. So, I thought… no harm trying again. I downloaded the latest MT, followed the instructions and dang… same error message like before. Tweaked around and finally got something new, managed to see the configuration wizard and I happily filling up and clicking away. Next — Missing Database Modules. What the… Gave up and back to WP.

Another problem, the database I have exported earlier could not be imported to my new hosting. Some SQL errors. OMG! All my posts are gone!

Can I say lucky? I have WP installed on my iPhone and I could still find old posts in there. Now, I have to retype every single posts back in again.

The Whys

Holidays are supposed to clear our mind. I am on the last day of my fortnight leave from work and yet I am feeling more exhausted than it should be, especially after I was being told of something on the day before. It makes me ponder again about the choice I have made last year. Was it the right thing to do? Why it has to be like this? Why me?

Previously, I have a plan to move to another country, on a long term basis or rather, permanently, if things goes well. But it was held up by a lot of circumstances. With all these happening, I’d guess it is giving me enough of determination to proceed with my plan.

With all these vague description, I’d doubt I will have a clue of what I am trying to tell here, if I happen to revisit this post again but hell! Let’s fight for our own bright, bright future!

In Memory & Happy Birthday

You have been gone for 10 years but it still seems like yesterday.

I am doing fine. A little ups and downs are a norm. Some thoughts are playing in my mind recently. I have some plans but not sure how to proceed and I wished you were here to get me through. But worry not, I’ll manage it because I know you will be around.

A happy belated birthday to you and love always.

People die only when we forget them. If you can remember me, I will be with you always.

Welcome Koala Bear

No, I am not getting a koala bear as a pet.

It is actually a name Belle gave to her baby brother, whenever we asked what to name him. My sister-in-law gave birth to a healthy baby boy this evening. He has a very special date/time of birth – May 21st 2012 @ 5:21PM.

Baby Jasper

Coincidentally I am on leave. Together with Mom and Belle, we went to the hospital. We headed to the room number that Gor gave us but could not find it. So, we decided to wait at Starbucks while having a cuppa. I tried to call his mobile several times but he is not answering and then he finally sent me a short message, “He is here!” We quickly finish our drinks and couldn’t wait to see him but unfortunately the kid doctor was not there yet to check him. At the end, we decided to go back home first.

We went back to the hospital again at night, with Dad. The nurse was bathing him and told us to wait for a short while… Almost an hour passed, close to 10PM but not a single sign of him. A quick check with the nurse, they were keeping him in a box to get him warmer and asked us to wait for another while. As we had not have our dinner yet, we decided to come back the next day.

Sigh…

D+V’s <3 Project

We were at Port Dickson for a weekend. We booked a luxurious hotel room with a private pool at Grand Lexis, which fitted 10 of us including two of Yike’s kids. We had one important task at hand…

Rewind a little to April. We were at Coffee Bean after our DF0142 annual dinner. We were discussing about planning a local trip for one of the weekend. Topic on marriage suddenly popped up and we asked Mushroom when he and Vicky is going to tie the knot. That was when he tasked us with the proposal planning and we decided to do it during our PD trip.

Honestly, not much were being done or discussed until the very last two weeks. Here were the delegations:

  1. “Will U Marry Me” by the pool – Me with help from Yike
  2. Bouquet – Kristyn & Ann
  3. Photographer – Donny (of course)
  4. Videographer – Kristyn
  5. Decorations – Siew Fong, Louise, Shin Lee

We checked in at 15:00 while Mushroom was stalling by heading to Melaka first, to buy us time to decorate the room. I headed straight to the pool with all the candles and wire. My initial plan was to tied up all the candles with wire to make up the letter. First test failed as the weight was built up when all the candles were tied together, they sank. After some discussion and trial & error, we decided to lay it out by the pool side. A reminder to all, we must always be careful around the pool 🙂 as I slipped and fell into the pool while trying to stand on a narrow side of the pool. Since I was all soaked, I remained in the pool with my clothes on while finishing the decor.

Preparations were all done around 17:00 and Mushroom updated us that he will be reaching soon. As the sun had not set and it was still bright, it will not look nice when we lit up all the candles, with such bright background. Thus, we asked him to stall and try to reach as later as possible. At least until it is dark enough to feel the romance. Haha! He did and they reached around 18:30, almost dawn. The plot began~

Ann, Siew Fong, Shin Lee, two young ones and Kristyn armed with the camcorder, went to the lobby to meet with both of them. Kristyn started filming (pretending it’s her new camcorder and she is testing it). They asked Mushroom to go to the car park and help me carry some stuffs. They stopped at the car park at 4th floor and he had to sprint to 7th floor to meet me while they played dumb in the lift by pressing the wrong floors – they went to 9th floor. I quickly brought Mushroom into the room and briefed him on our plan before we had him hide at the other end of the pool. Everyone is on standby.

Once Vicky stepped in, she saw an iPad with a Post-it note that says “Play Me”. It played a video speech recorded by Mushroom. It was my bad for forgetting to bring the HDMI adapter for the iPad. We had initially planned to plug the iPad to the TV in the room. It would have look nicer on a TV instead. She had to replay the video few times because of the soft voice playback. Tears started to roll down her cheek. Then she followed the flower petals on the floor to the next room which ended with an arrow pointed at a wooden sliding door. It had another Post-it note with “Open Me”. She was surprised when she saw Mushroom standing at the other end, holding a cardboard that says “Please Say Yes”. She immediately said “YES!” Part of our plan – he has to jump into the pool and present her the ring. With the bouquet, he knelt on one knee and popped up the question again. He got another “Yes”. We were cheering and clapping when he took out the ring and slid it on her finger. Photo session begins.

We had one evil plan. While they were standing on the steps in the pool, Ann and Yike was on count – 1, 2 and 3 – off into the pool! Luckily she was all smiling. 🙂

Mission Accomplished!

Mission accomplished!

What A Dream

I remember I was walking away from office. There was a downward slope, exactly like the one when I once lived. I saw a brown-furred lioness laying on the other sidewalk and was alerted of my presence. As I saw it in a “ready” stance, I slowly turned around and head to the opposite direction. I looked back and saw it started walking. Startled by its action, I quicken my pace and eventually started running. The next part was a little fuzzy but I remember seeing a tree and realising that I am not able to run away from it, I climbed onto the bald tree.

There is a boy trying to make the lioness away by surprisingly, it looked like they were playing with each other and no harm was done to the boy. Crowds began to gather around the tree and they didn’t look threaten by the presence of the lioness nor it actually realise the presence of the crowd. It started to circle around the tree accompanied by 2 more lions or some animals that resemble a lion.

I wanted to grab my phone to make an emergency call but my phone and other possessions were on the ground. I saw a girl talking on a phone. I shouted at her to dial for emergency. I was not sure if she heard me and do as I said or she ignored me. Then, I saw the brown-furred lioness on its two hind legs, picked up my mobile and started dialing a number.

And that was when my alarm rang. Dang!

It’s Here! It’s Here!

Finally! The entire process was not as long as I have expected. No queue, no crowd.

I reached KL Convention Centre around 14:30, although I have booked the 14:00 slot. So I’d expecting a big crowd and long queue but to my surprise, it was not. But yes, there was a big crowd and long queue but those people were waiting to go into the Comic Fest KL. I saw a lot of cosplay fans, those that I recognised — One Piece, Hayate the Combat Butler, Bleach, Aliens and maybe some more. I guess those Maxis people realised that people looking for iPhone 4S would be lost among these comic fans, they had staffs stationed in between with placards that shout out “Maxis iPhone 4S” and “Registration”. This guy asked us to walk along and look for guys in black suit (MiB?). Unfortunately, there were not tall, handsome, nice hunky body kinda guys. LOL!

There were a lot of arched pathway with lots of “stages” to go through. It’s like a game, you have to complete a stage to advance to the next. Here’s the summary:

  1. Stage 1: A lady asked for my booking confirmation
  2. Stage 2: A lady passed me some forms
  3. Stage 3: Look for staffs with iPad for registration
  4. Stage 4: End of the pathway, show the completed form to a lady and was given a queue number
  5. Stage 5: Queue number called, proceed to the assigned counter. Mine was A3
  6. Stage 6: (This should be the mini-boss) Pass them the forms, make payment and wait
  7. Stage 7: (another mini-boss) Go to the assigned collection counter to collect the phone
  8. Stage 8: FINAL BIG BOSS! Activate the phone!

Being a very careful user, I immediately headed to those accessories stalls in the middle of the hall for casing. While I was waiting to make the payment, Ann helped me to buy a RM49 screen protector. They provided free service to apply the protector, if you purchase from them. I found out that the one Ann bought has only front screen protector but I want both front and back. A very good friend indeed. She helped me to ask the promoter if we can do a refund. Lucky for us, there was a guy wanted to buy the same screen protector and he is willing to buy it from us. Then we headed to the next stall, selling both front and back protector at RM50+. I have also bought a pink casing. Haha! Ann gave me a weird look. It’s not a pink pink, it’s Persian Rose (check Wiki)

I was so happy after I got my long-awaited iPhone 4S. We headed back and she made me to have steamboat for dinner. I super dislike steamboat because it makes you stink afterwards. But considering that she came along and helped me with stuffs, an exception only for today.

Waiting Anxiously

Waiting for what? For this, of course!

I have been waiting for the next iPhone but honestly, I was quite disappointed when they announced iPhone 4S instead of the speculated iPhone 5. Nevertheless, I’ll still get it because I can’t stand the sluggishness of my old-trustworthy iPhone 3GS. Apart from being sluggish, the camera is not working like it should. I had the camera lens replaced once.

For the past weeks, the 3 major telcos had announced that they will be offering iPhone 4S soon. Few days later, they revealed the date of launch – 16 December 2011. Everyone is waiting impatiently for their respective plans, until few days ago. We saw DiGi revealed their plans, followed by Maxis. No idea about Celcom as I’m not a very big fan of them.

Last week, I received a booking invitation from Maxis to their launches — midnight pre-launch starting tonight and day launches on 16 & 17 Dec. I registered for the 17 Dec launch. Hopefully I can get the phone on the spot unlike when I got my iPhone 3GS which I had to wait for around a month.

OMG! Please, Saturday come quick!

Another Beginning

A week long holiday is gonna end soon and tomorrow will be a new beginning. I’m not sure if this is how I felt before my first day with HP.

My feeling now? It’s like a flat like with few up-hike occasionally. It’s not that I’m not happy with the new job or feel excited. I’m able to relax perhaps I knew that I have somebody I know in there and there will always be help in case I need it. Unless they don’t want to help me. 😛 People rarely feel excited when they are about to enter a new, unfamiliar environment. They should be scared or nervous but I’d guess the excitement covered it all.

Someone once hinted at me, not to mind if people are saying that I go there because I want to be with them. Of course, she knew that it was not the reason why I applied and accepted the offer or it’s because that I am desperate to get a new job. Maybe a little but thinking back, if I was desperate, I would have accepted previous offers instead but I know what are my priorities. Thus, I never did until this offer.

I do not have the obligation to explain my actions to anyone else except myself and perhaps my family. If I am able to brush things off just like that. 🙂

Wishing myself all the best and smooth sailing ahead with a new beginning!

The first step towards getting somewhere is to decide that you are not going to stay where you are.
